For as long as I can remember I have always been obsessed with Arnold Schwarzenegger films, I remember as a kid watching Terminator 2: Judgement day everyday and have watched it well over 100 times to date, it just never gets old!
When I entered my teens I started to learn more about this 'action hero' and was stunned by learning about how successful this man actually was, not only did he become the greatest bodybuilder of all time and the biggest action star on the planet but he made his first million through business decisions which included investing in real estate.
I remember when it was announced that he had become the 38th Governor of California, I was about 16 years old and working out in the high school gym after school, I had just heard it on the radio and after finishing my set on the seated chest press I got up and raised my hands in the air while everyone else laughed (I was also laughing)! I couldn't believe that this man from a small town in Austria had just entered yet another spectacular career in his life.
Some people suggest that he has been 'lucky' or that he was in the right place at the right time but there is nothing further from the truth. He had all the odds stacked up against him and had people constantly telling him that "it can't be done", of course he never listened to them and achieved everything he set out to do.
Arnold has been such a big inspiration in my life and has driven me to set some crazy goals for myself. When I announced that I would run the length of New Zealand I had people telling me that it was unrealistic and also had people tell me to my face that I wouldn't do it, I did do it.
Last week I had the great privilege of letting Arnold know how much of an inspiration he has been in my life and how he has helped me achieve some of my goals. He thanked me and we shared a couple of lines from the movie Predator which basically made my life right then and there!
One of Arnolds rules for success is 'work your ass off', which is simple and yet so very true, you will not get anywhere in life if you don't work as hard as you can to get there.
"You can't climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets." - Arnold Schwarzenegger
